Shopping at Pais was so much fun that we went back today. Walked to the store near us and we explored the neighborhood on foot. It was interesting and gave us some much needed bearings for our location. I was a little nervous, but Jerry thinks I’m being paranoid. I say better safe than sorry. Actually I think this area is quite safe to walk in at reasonable hours.

A traditional food for New Year’s Eve and other holidays is the Guatemalan tamals. They are unlike tamales we often see in the US. The masa is more loose, the filling more generous so they are much larger and they are wrapped in plantain leaves and tied. We purchased three chicken and three beef and I’m going to cook them for us as part of our New Year’s celebration tonight. Can’t wait. I think I mentioned we’re going to the rooftop portico, an enormous space that is completely finished out with tiles and Grecian columns with arbors running between them. As you can see from the photos, the view is spectacular.
